Taner Osman, Ph.D.

Taner Osman is co-founder of Westwood Economics & Planning Consultants. As an expert in regional economic analysis and development strategies, with a particular focus on the labor market, land use planning, and the impact of the tech industry on local economies, Dr. Osman has worked with clients ranging from local governments, Chambers of Commerce, industry associations as well as Fortune 500 private sector clients for more than a decade.

Dr. Osman’s research in the fields of urban planning and local economic development has been published in numerous outlets such as the Journal of Transport and Land Use, Research Policy, and International Regional Science Review, and he is a co-author of the book, The Rise and Fall of Urban Economies: Lessons from San Francisco and Los Angeles, published by the Stanford University Press. He is regularly quoted in the media, including outlets like the Houston Chronicle, Los Angeles Times, and Los Angeles Business Journal and he has made numerous radio and television appearances. He also holds an appointment in the Department of Urban Planning at UCLA, where he teaches courses in quantitative methods and local economic development

Dr. Osman holds a Ph.D. in Urban Planning from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and an M.S in Regional Economics from the University of Massachusetts.
